FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Saisonality:

A seasonal pattern is a recurring price trend that repeats itself in a calendar year.
For example, if Microsoft's stock has risen from mid-October to mid-November every year for the last ten years, that is a seasonal pattern.
Seasonality provides an advantage in strategic decision-making when trading on the stock market by determining the likelihood of a profitable trade.
Investors need to consider the seasonality of price movements as they have a major impact on the overall portfolio's performance.

Seasonal patterns based on identifiable causes and well-analyzed statistically are considered stable and have a high probability of recurring in the future.

Yes, if you look at the backtests of the seasonal patterns, there are many results where the hit rate is between 75-95%. There are always exceptions to these seasonal patterns where the price trend has gone in the opposite direction.
It is also not recommended to only look for seasonal patterns with a 100% hit rate. You will generate more successful results if you implement several trades with a hit rate of 75-100%.

We offer a platform that significantly simplifies the process of finding and analyzing trading decisions and is designed to bring high-added value to the user's trading and investment decisions.
We focus on recurring price patterns. These include seasonal patterns and price patterns of recurring events such as public holidays, share earnings, or the publication of economic figures.

Seasonality.Ai offers two ways to identify profitable seasonal patterns.

1. Seasonality Screener. The screener is a tool that identifies seasonal patterns in different markets and different time levels (Yearly, Monthly, Weekly).
Use the seasonality screener. The Screnner is a tool that identifies seasonal patterns. Use the Screnner filter functions to customize the results according to your needs.
For example, if you want to search for seasonal patterns in your portfolio, you can map your portfolio as a watchlist. The Screnner will only search for the best seasonal patterns in the specific watchlist.

2. Open the instrument of your choice and use the "Best Pattern" function. It will show you the 100 best seasonal patterns per instrument.

There are seasonal patterns that work 100% over a more extended period. There is no guarantee that they will continue to work, but there is a high probability that they will continue to repeat.
Seasonal patterns work best when the overall trend and market sentiment match the seasonal pattern.
For example: The index should not be in a bear market for seasonal long patterns in equities. For seasonal patterns in currencies, it helps if the interest rate trend has the same direction as the seasonal pattern.

Yes, there are various ways to analyze your equity portfolio seasonally.
1. Create a watchlist with your stocks or instruments. You can use the watchlist in the Seasonality Screener. The screener then searches for seasonal patterns in your portfolio. You can also use the watchlist in the Seasonality Comparison Tool. The comparison tool shows the seasonal patterns of all instruments in the watchlist in a chart.
2. You can save the best seasonal patterns with the favorites function. This gives you access to the best seasonal patterns in your portfolio at any time.

Yes, the following analysis tools analyze intraday data.

  • Seasonality Analyzer - Intraday
  • Seasonality Comparison - Intraday
  • Event Analyzer - Intraday
Intraday data is available for currencies (including cryptos), ETFs, futures, indices, and shares of the major indices.

We calculate the profitability of seasonal patterns with a backtest.
The result shows how the portfolio would have developed if only this seasonal pattern had been traded in the past.
If the backtest shows a high hit rate, there is a high probability that the seasonal pattern will also occur in the future.

Seasonality results from fundamental, repetitive developments.
The reasons are numerous. However, common reasons are, for example, earnings in the case of shares and the recurring transfer of money at the end of fiscal periods in the case of currencies. Regarding individual commodities, the weather and heating patterns impact pricing. Equity funds engage in "window dressing" and try to optimize their returns at the end of the year by driving up share prices.
The holiday effect also usually has a more positive impact on the mood of market participants, and many investors use their free time to make investment decisions.
Seasonality can refer to a calendar season, such as summer or winter, and a commercial season, such as vacation. Companies that understand the seasonality of their business can accurately predict inventory levels, staffing needs, and other decisions and time them to match the expected seasonality of related business activities, thereby reducing costs and increasing revenue.

Because the reasons for seasonal patterns vary widely, it is also essential to understand that seasonal patterns do not only occur on a year-to-year basis (repeating from year to year). Seasonal patterns also exist from month to month or week to week.

Detrending means that the seasonal chart is adjusted so that seasonal patterns can be better recognized visually.
This is particularly useful for analyzing an instrument showing a sustained substantial price increase. In these cases, the average seasonal chart usually indicates a straight line from bottom left to top right.
This makes it challenging to recognize seasonal patterns. This is why a detrended chart starts at 100 and ends at 100, making it easier to recognize rises and falls in the chart.

Yes, it is possible to optimize a seasonal pattern.

The backtest and the analysis statistics show the seasonal pattern's development. Seasonal data is displayed per year, month, week, day of the month, and day of the week. This data can be used to identify which times work better or worse for the seasonal pattern.
The filter options offer further possibilities to exclude different time periods, such as bull or bear market phases, from the analysis.

Screener results are exclusively backtests from the past. Analyzer results also include trades that are currently running.

For example, if an entry in the Screener shows that trade from the beginning of March to the end of April has a hit rate of 100% and a sortino ratio of 100, then this backtest only includes data from previous years.
If you open this entry in the analyzer in mid-March, the analyzer will consist of the current year (which is missing in the backtest) in the analysis to show the current status.
The result in the Analyzer may differ from the key figures in the Screener display.
